Everyone is welcome to participate in PTA, in whichever
ways work best for you. We warmly invite you to:
- Become
a PTA member – Please fill out the a
dues envelope (available in the school office),
attach your check for $10 and return to the school
office. It is never too late to join PTA! Your
dues go to support programs at Robert Gray, as
well as to Portland, State, and National PTAs
to provide support for local PTAs and to advocate
on behalf of all children.
- Volunteer – It’s
a huge myth that parents are no longer needed
once you get to middle school. Click to see all
the volunteer opportunities that await you at
Robert Gray! Many are one-time or short-term jobs
that can be done in the evening or on your schedule.
Research shows that moms, dads, and caring adults
spending even just a few hours a year at school
makes a significant difference in your child’s
success. There are so many ways you can help,
and every job counts!
- Attend
a PTA Meeting – Please
mark your calendars with these PTA meeting dates:
Sept. 24, Oct. 15, Nov. 26th, Jan. 14th, Feb. 25th, Mar. 17th, April 21st and June 2nd. We meet at 7:00 pm
in the school library. Larry Dashiell and Joe
Galati are always there to answer your questions.
Meetings are informal, and as brief as possible.
This year’s
meetings have already featured a speaker from
Planned Parenthood as well as the Principal and
Vice Principal from Wilson High School. Your input,
ideas and suggestions are always welcome.
- Fundraiser
for the school– With
the ongoing school budget crisis, PTA plays a
crucial role in helping fill the gaps and supporting
our excellent staff and students achieve their
very best. The PTA sponsors one main fundraiser
during the year, the fall Magazine Sale, which
supports the bulk of our budget. (The PTA budget
is approved by members at the September meeting.)
Thanks to parent Martha Johansen, we are trying
a new fundraiser this year, the Chinook Book.
We also have “passive” fundraisers where we get a percentage of sales at local businesses.
Look for info elsewhere in this packet on the
various fundraisers, and thank you in advance
for your support!
