MISSION STATEMENT:

PURPOSE: Since 1964, our sole purpose has been to furnish age-appropriate clothing that fits children that come to us needing these services. By caring for the basic needs of our youth and allowing them to dress as their peers, we are encouraging positive self-esteem, academic success and regular class attendance. We share the Portland Council PTA's purpose to give every child a chance.

QUALIFYING CHILDREN: All Portland Public School children that do not have access to age-appropriate clothing are eligible to be referred to the PTA Clothing Center.

REFERRAL PROCESS: Portland Public School Principals or School Secretaries fill out a school-year referral form for each student needing the Clothing Center's services. Once the student has the completed form, they may come to the Center once before winter break and once after winter break of that same school year.

CLOTHING: We accept donations of gently-used clothing from school-run clothing drives, school lost and found items, and concerned community members. Donations of money from our local PTA's, individuals, and caring businesses provide our children with new jeans, underwear and socks.

STAFF: The Portland Council PTA Clothing Center is a committee of the Portland Council PTA. It shares the same non-profit status and is staffed by volunteers from all schools within the district. Each school is responsible for a portion of the volunteer time needed to keep the Center running successfully.
